TRAVEL VISA/ENTRY FORMALITIES

Visitors to Nigeria must have valid visa to enter Nigeria, obtainable from Embassies/Consular Missions or Visa Processing Centers in their respective countries, before commencing such a journey to Nigeria.  However, ECOWAS citizens and countries with visa abolition agreement with Nigeria require no visa for entry into Nigeria. They, however, must enter with valid travel documents and through an approved entry point. All other passengers who are not holders of passport of member countries of ECOWAS and Africa Union applying for the Business purpose will apply for Visa on Arrival vie portal.immigration.gov.ng and must obtain approval online, before the commencement of the journey to Nigeria.

All categories of applicants that require Visa for entry into Nigeria are expected to pay online.

TRANSPORT TO AND FROM AIRPORT, HOTEL AND WORKSHOP VENUE

Means of transport will be provided to pick up participants upon arrival at the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport, Abuja.  Please, look out for person(s) who will be holding a placard reading “FMENV/UNEP ODSONET Meeting”. Itineraries of participants should be sent to the contact persons for ease of pick up.

ACCOMMODATION AND FOOD

To avoid traffic congestion and lateness to the meeting, all participants are required to lodge at the hotel venue of the meeting at a discounted rate of ₦20,000 (equivalent to USD 55) per night without breakfast. The hotel is a 5-star hotel located at the city center. However, there will be two complimentary tea breaks (one in the mornings of the meeting days). Lunches will also be kindly provided for participants during the meeting period with the courtesy of the Government of the Federal Republic of Nigeria. 

WEATHER CONDITIONS

The weather in Abuja is generally warm with low humidity. Daytime & night-time temperatures are approximately 34°C & 21°C respectively in March with some rains expected in the month.

LOCAL CURRENCY AND BANK

The local currency used in Nigeria is the Naira (₦). The average exchange rate currently is 1 US$ = ₦ 361.  There are banks and numerous forex exchange bureau located along streets within the City Centre.
